Berne
For sure every self-respecting tourist, traveling to Switzerland, will visit the capital, the most «bearish» city Bern. Be ready that the symbol of a bear will pursue you everywhere - this is due to the fact that in the XII century, a bear became the first animal that was caught in a trap by the Count Berthold V Zagringenu. The city with a long history will delight its guests with interesting stories and curious legend.
From time to time a great tower with astronomical clocks Tsitgloggeturm served as a prison or as a watchtower, but now it has become a cultural monument, near which the capital’s life never stops to boil. The peculiarity of this clocks is that apart from the time you can also learn the day of the week, month, zodiac sign, and even the moon phase. The singing of a rooster and an unusual parade of bears are recognized by residents and visitors of Bern as the completion of each hour.
The Cathedral Berner Münster, dedicated to Vincent of Saragossa, reaches 100 meters in height. Here tourists can see the collection of late Gothic sculptures, admire the picturesque views of the city from the viewing point and take a walk in the park, adjacent to the cathedral.
In the Museum of Fine Arts you will see with your own eyes not only the paintings of modern Swiss artists, but also the works of such prominent Impressionists as Delacroix, Manet, Cezanne and the Surrealists as Salvador Dali. Canvases of these talented artists are known throughout the world, so you should not miss the opportunity to see the original paintings of the outstanding artists once in your life.
The fountain “Children Eater” is shrouded in old legends. A cannibal who eats a naked child was fearsome for the kids and became a cause of mythical stories. The Bear Fountain encounters visitors in a more friendly way. A Soldier-Bear, who is ready at any moment to run into battle, and a little bear, who eats grapes, give a fancy full scope for tourists, who offer a large number of interpretations for this sculpture.
If you are dreaming to visit the house museum of Albert Einstein, where "The Theory of Relativity" began its life, if you want to see a bear-pit where two cute teddy bears live, and if you want to make a tour in the Prison Tower, which has now become a small museum, you should go to Berne, the city of churches and cathedrals, monuments and towers, museums and galleries.
